Oasis of the Seas Opal TheaterDid you miss Successful Meeting’s April Webcast, “Making Cruises Work For All Meetings”? If so, here’s a brief recap to get you up-to-speed. (We’ll also give you a link to watch the archived webcast at the end of this post.)

The webcast was sponsored by Royal Caribbean International and featured Landry & Kling CEO and Co-Founder Joyce Landry; along with CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) VP of Business Development Didier Scaillet; and Lori Cassidy, Royal Caribbean’s Director of Global Corporate, Incentive & Charter Sales.

Didier mentioned some surprising statistics from recent CLIA/SITE Foundation Research: 68.3% of planners surveyed would recommend a cruise ship for their meeting or conference, and 91,5% said that cruising is highly memorable and motivatingBut here’s a fact that may shock you:

It is less expensive to use a cruise venue today than it was 15 years ago.

That’s right, in 1990, a 4-night cruise for 100 attendees in oceanview staterooms cost $1,100 per person. Today, that same program – with balcony staterooms – would be 20% less!

Joyce Landry focused on “Who wants to meet at sea?” (Short answer: everyone!). She also shared Cruise Event Best Practice Do’s and Don’ts and a cost comparison chart demonstrating the value of a cruise vs. hotel program. But perhaps most compelling were the Landry & Kling Case Studies showcasing programs with three completely different sets of requirements.

And finally, Lori Cassidy shared some great ways to include “Wow’s that are affordable” during your cruise event (hint: they’re built right in when book a Royal Caribbean ship!).
